Spelthorne Welcoming CIL Applications
4th October 2022
The Local CIL Spending Round 2022-2023 is now open for applications for funding towards local community projects
Following a successful initial Spending Round last year, Spelthorne Council is now open again for applications for funding through the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) for local projects and improvements.
CIL is money raised from new development to help fund the infrastructure needed to mitigate the impacts of extra homes. CIL funds are used for either local infrastructure or wider strategic infrastructure.
Strategic projects in the Borough have already had over £6m of funding agreed from CIL, which includes commitments to the NHS, Surrey Education, and Highways projects.
The 2021-2022 Local CIL Spending Round saw funding exceeding £180,000 committed to a range of community-based projects, from playground equipment in local schools and sports clubs, to community building improvements, and investment in CCTV to tackle anti-social behaviour.
Applications are expected to come from statutory infrastructure providers and not-for-profit organisations such as state schools, community groups and registered charities for projects that demonstrate a wider community benefit.
The deadline for this round of applications is 31 March 2023. Decisions will be made by local spending boards, comprising all ward councillors, for each area in the Borough.
Cllr John Boughtflower, Leader of Spelthorne Borough Council and Chair of the CIL Task Group, said: “Last year’s funding demonstrated that Spelthorne passionately cares about investing in our communities, enhancing opportunities for the younger generation and making the Borough a more accessible place for our residents. I would encourage all community groups to consider any improvement works they have planned as this funding allows projects to receive financing.”
