Surrey Translation Bureau Shortlisted for Sustainability Awards

Surrey Translation Bureau (STB), a Surrey-based language service provider, is delighted to announce its nomination as a finalist in the Sustainability category of the prestigious Westminster Business Council 2023 Awards. This recognition highlights STB’s commitment to sustainable business practices and its dedication to environmental responsibility.

The judges evaluated businesses on how they have demonstrated a clear mission to embed sustainable practices, the changes they have made to their operations, and how they are engaging their stakeholders in this endeavour.

The winners will be announced on 19 October at the beautiful Church House, Westminster conference centre in London.

STB has been diligently pursuing the goals and objectives outlined in its Sustainability Policy.

The Language Service Provider is also collaborating with students from the University of Southampton Business School to help produce their inaugural sustainability report, which is due for completion by the end of September. This initiative is not only instrumental in advancing STB’s sustainability goals but also in supporting students’ academic endeavours and future career prospects.

STB has embraced a top-down approach to environmental sustainability by elevating it to one of the company’s overarching objectives for achieving ISO certifications. The translation company has also appointed a dedicated Sustainability Officer, Ella Norris, who has completed a TQUK Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Environmental Sustainability.

Ella commented on being shortlisted for the WBC Awards, “I am delighted that we are a finalist under the sustainability category. We are dedicated as a small business to making a positive impact on the planet, and it gives me great pride to be recognised for that.”

The team at STB have been taking small steps towards making big changes for the environment: from changing consumption and production habits to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and waste, to maximising their recycling and committing to a circular model of reduce, reuse and recycle. This includes using computer recycling companies and donating office equipment to local charities and organisations to minimise the amount of waste going to landfill.

Adopting a hybrid working model has led to over 50% reduction in employee commute emissions, while virtual client meetings and selecting low-emission transportation for essential travel exemplify STB’s commitment to sustainable business practices.
