Going Green: Sustainability in the Contract Furniture Industry

19th May 2023

The future of sustainable furniture is incredibly important to Satelliet UK, the goal is to have 75% of products made from sustainable and/or recycled materials by 2030.  The SUM collection has and will contribute significantly to this objective. There are already three in this Satelliet Originals collection; Code, Current and Press, they each have their own identity and are already successfully used in numerous interiors. Not only because of their sustainable character but also because they are Original and look great.

Sustainable commercial furniture is produced using environmentally friendly materials and manufacturing processes, with the goal of minimising its environmental impact. These ranges of furniture are designed to be long-lasting, durable, and functional, while also minimising and conserving natural resources, and reducing the carbon footprint of the furniture industry.

Materials such as FSC-certified wood, bamboo, recycled plastic, and metal are commonly used in sustainable commercial furniture. They are either renewable, recycled, or both, and they have a lower environmental impact compared to traditional products.

The manufacturing process is a critical aspect of sustainability within the industry and is a key component of Satelliet’s sustainable values. Satelliet Originals strive to use energy-efficient processes and equipment, to reduce waste by recycling and reusing materials. For example, furniture manufacturers can use scrap wood to produce particleboard or use recycled plastic to make chairs and tables.

By going down this route, it is not only environmentally friendly, but it can also provide financial benefits to businesses. Furniture that is designed to last longer reduces the need for replacement, which can be costly for businesses in the long run. Additionally, this can improve the brand image of a bar or restaurant, as it demonstrates a commitment to environmental responsibility.

The Satelliet Originals collection featuring the SUM (still usable materials) products, arose from the need to create a unique and versatile product range with its own recognisable signature. Through years of experience, and by always actively looking for the latest developments and trends, Satelliet provides a quality, contemporary and on trend collection to meet the requirements of clients and works hard to build upon the future of sustainable hospitality furniture.

This is done by continuously making sustainable decisions and use of SUM – Still Usable Materials – for the creation of great new products. Satelliet Originals strongly believe that contemporary and sustainable furniture items should be used in hospitality and leisure design concepts because not only are they kind to the environment, but they are beautiful and comfortable. This is how businesses can contribute to a sustainable future, without compromising on appearance and quality.
