Paddington Bear to Visit Brooklands Museum on King Charles III Coronation Weekend
2nd May 2023
Brooklands Museum, Weybridge, will welcome a special guest, Paddington Bear, at its annual Best of British event on Sunday, 7th May. The family-friendly event will feature displays of classic British vehicles, British fayre, a big brass band, traditional entertainment and much more.
The big weekend of King Charles III’s Coronation will see Brooklands celebrate the royal occasion with a host of British entertainment, including Morris dancers and a big brass band, playing tunes from yesteryear and leading the crowd in a sing-along featuring some old-time favourites. There will be lots to occupy the young and young at heart, with traditional fairground rides* and a royal Punch and Judy show. Paddington Bear, an old friend of Her late Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, will make several appearances throughout the day, allowing visitors to take photos with the famous character.
Steve Castle, Brooklands Museum Event Manager, said:
“We are thrilled to be sharing in the King’s Coronation weekend celebrations and opening our doors for our Best of British event. We will bring together many classic vehicles, some His Majesty would recognise from his youth, and in true British spirit, many people are volunteering their time to support the event. So there will be something for everyone to enjoy!”
Spectators can wander through displays of all British car and motorcycle marques, from the pre-war Alvis, Norton and Sunbeam to the latest Jaguar models and see vehicles racing up Test Hill. MG and the Aston Martin Razor Blade are joining in the celebrations, marking their centenaries, as are Land Rover, who celebrate 75 years in the industry this year.
As well as all the festivities, the Museum is open as usual, with all its incredible exhibitions and collections, free children’s workshops and a royal-themed walking trail. Open from 10am to 5pm, visitors can enjoy a full day out, with café and picnic areas available. Brooklands Museum is located in Weybridge, a 15-minute walk from Weybridge Station or just off J10/11 of the M25, with free parking.
Visitors can pay at the gate or save 5% by booking advance tickets online at brooklandsmuseum.com. Prices start from £36.95 for a family, and Members receive free entry to the event. *additional charges apply to fairground rides.
