Actress Charlie Brooks launches the Surrey 5 Peaks hikeathon

3rd July 2019

Actress and Surrey Care Trust volunteer mentor, Charlie Brooks is asking businesses to step out for Surrey Care Trust on Saturday 14 September and make a difference to the lives of tens of thousands of people in Surrey, who are disadvantaged by low skills, lack of opportunity, setbacks in life and precarious economic circumstances.

Charlie, a Surrey resident says: “There are still too many people in Surrey who are limited not by potential, but opportunity. I know from my experience as a volunteer mentor that the support offered by the Surrey Care Trust can be transformative for people who have experienced setbacks in life like illness, addiction, family breakdown and unemployment. Stepping out for the Trust means you’ll be stepping up for people in our community who need help to get them back on track.”

Surrey Care Trust helps local people to improve their skills for work, life and learning and has organised an annual fundraising walk for over a decade. Thanks to Hikeathon sponsors, Mid-Holmwood based Broanmain Plastics, walkers can be assured that every penny raised goes towards the Trust’s mission to tackle disadvantage, social exclusion and hardship in local communities.

This year’s circular walk starts and ends in Mickleham. The 26-mile walk travels along parts of the North Downs Way and the Greensands Way, taking in Headley Heath, Betchworth, Brockham and the market town of Reigate, and includes five peaks including Coley Hill and Box Hill affording walkers spectacular views of the Surrey Hills. There is also an option of walking 13 miles and finishing at the lunch stop.

Get your business involved and:

  • Use it as a team building opportunity
  • Make it a silly hike – dress up in fancy dress and boost your donations
  • Raise your profile
  • Make a real difference in your local community

Teams are asked to aim to raise £750 in sponsorship including a £55 per person registration fee. Refreshments and drinks are included and lunch is provided for all 13 and 26 mile walkers. Every team that raises over £750 for the Surrey Care Trust will also receive free t-shirts and all fundraisers will receive a medal.

Surrey 5 Peaks is the charity’s biggest fundraiser and the challenging walk reflects its ethos of encouraging people to push themselves and discover hidden strengths. The Trust’s services include an alternative education programme for young people who have not coped in conventional school, adult learning and training courses, mentoring, counselling and an environmental volunteering scheme that encourages people from all walks of life to work together and learn new skills in the process.
