Latest Updates From Surrey Chambers CEO – 2nd December 2021

2nd December 2021

As we approach the end of the year it is quite astonishing how resilient businesses have been throughout nearly two years of disruption. The atmosphere at the recent Surrey Business Awards, run in conjunction with our wonderful media partners, Platinum, was really buoyant, with many Chamber businesses scooping one of the 16 awards. Amongst the winners were ramsac, Silent Pool Distillers, Fard & Co Solicitors, Trafalgar Marquees and Invotra, who were awarded Chamber Member of the Year. We also celebrated with many finalists and highly commended businesses at the sparkling gala night hosted by Natasha Kaplinsky. Also recognised, with a special award, was the incredible support and work of our Chamber President and MD of projectfive, Steve Coburn. Steve has been talking to Surrey businesses and lobbying government, via the British Chambers, for various types of support like the flexible furlough, which was so necessary for small businesses to keep their business alive. As well as keeping his own business going he has launched a brand new concept in login business lounge, allowing businesses to access really flexible space for meetings or just remote working. This is one example of how Surrey businesses have pivoted their business in response to the changing way of working.

Kickstart

After a successful year of running the Kickstart scheme in Surrey we are now closed for new employer applications. However, there are still over 300 vacancies available so any young people on Universal Credit should be talking to their work coaches to avoid missing this fantastic opportunity to learn and develop with a local business. Many of the placements are turning into permanent roles so this is a great opportunity to join one of the great businesses in Surrey.

Celebration events

At the time of going to press we are still looking forward to the Surrey Chambers Annual Christmas lunch taking place on Thursday 16th December at Brooklands Hotel, Weybridge. Sponsored by Surrey Research Park we also have a wonderful charity raffle in support of Your Sanctuary. Tickets are going fast with businesses treating their clients or team to a festive occasion organised on their behalf.

On the 15th December we also have our Woking Winter Warmer with Woking Works and Woking Chamber of Commerce at DoubleTree Woking. We look forward to welcoming many businesses to join us in raising our glasses to a prosperous 2022.

Planning for 2022

The Surrey Chambers team are currently planning for an exciting 2022, with a fantastic programme of events as well as some new service offerings. We are constantly listening to our members to understand what will be of most help and designing our services accordingly. We represent the voice of business on many Boards and Groups and therefore are always keen to hear how things are going with local businesses. We are very accessible and always keen to hear from YOU!!
