Smith & Williamson’s Guildford Office raises over £10,000 for Shooting Star Children’s Hospices in two-year partnership
18th September 2020
The Guildford office of Smith & Williamson, the financial and professional services firm, has announced it has raised over £10,000 for Shooting Star Children’s Hospices since partnering with the local charity in September 2018.
Shooting Star Children’s Hospices supports babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions. The charity supports families across Surrey and London with everything from diagnosis to end of life, and throughout bereavement, with a range of nursing, practical, emotional and medical care.
Smith & Williamson’s Guildford office has organised several quiz nights, themed bake sales, dress down days, clothes bag donations and even gloved-up for some gardening at Christopher’s hospice at Artington. The firm’s final fundraiser, a sweep stake for the US Tennis Open, concludes the firm’s two-year support for the charity.
Anne Carey, Head of Corporate Engagement at the charity commented: “Smith & Williamson has been wonderful supporters of Shooting Star Children’s Hospices over the past two years. On behalf of everyone at the hospices, and the families with children with life-limiting conditions we support, we want to say a huge thank you to everyone who works at the Guildford office. Whether a child’s life is measured in days, weeks, months or years, your support helps us to make every moment count for these families and their children.”
Smith & Williamson has a rich tradition of voluntary work and charitable giving. Maggie Lowe, Head of the firm’s Guildford office commented: “We like to donate to smaller organisations where our help will make a meaningful difference. We want to share the good work we do with everyone across the firm and continue to support our people in contributing to charities and their communities.”
The Guildford office has recently elected Guildford Action to be its next local charity partner for the next two-year period. Guildford Action provides a safe, non-judgmental refuge for people who have fallen through the net, or out of everyday society. The charity provides basic essentials like food, shelter, clean clothes and healthcare, which helps people start to re-build their lives. Through physical and emotional support, Guildford Action help people reconnect with society and themselves, rebuild their self-esteem and recover their identity and sense of belonging.
Jo Tester, CEO at Guildford Action says “We are experiencing a time of great economic uncertainty for the voluntary sector. We cannot fundraise as we normally do and the demand for our service is increasing and no doubt will continue to do so. It is more important than ever that we remain a safety net for those who have fallen through and strive to help people make memories and develop the skills and resilience to deal with every day demands. Knowing we are being supported by Smith & Williamson not only will help us financially, but it is heartening to know that a local business is committed to making the lives of those in the town who are struggling better. We are grateful and looking forward to building up this friendship over the next two years.”
