CRS Community Fund Awards £2000 Grant to GASP Motor Project

21st May 2021

GASP Motor Project in Albury has been awarded £2,000 from the Charles Russell Speechlys Community Fund of the Community Foundation for Surrey.

GASP provides vital learning experiences to young people who are struggling in mainstream education or who have been excluded from school. In particular, the charity helps students to develop practical mechanical and engineering skills at the same time as improving key personal skills such as team-working, problem-solving and confidence building.

With demand for GASP services at an all-time high as a result of the impact of the pandemic on young people’s education, the grant from the CRS Community Fund was awarded at a critical time. It is helping GASP to cover increased operational costs to support the 300 young people who use this service.

Alexandra Thompson, CEO, GASP Motor Project, “We are extremely grateful to have received this funding from the CRS Community Fund. The money has been used for admin support to facilitate our additional courses and meet the increased demand we are experiencing. This is critical in the smooth running of our service, ensuring that we can provide opportunities for more young people in the area.”

Sally Ashford, Partner, Charles Russell Speechlys adds, “The CRS Community Fund supports projects in and around Guildford which focus on employment, training and skills initiatives.  We awarded a CRS

Community Fund grant to GASP in January 2019 and have maintained contact with the charity ever since and so are aware of the extraordinary and vital support they provide to young people.

“When assessing the grant applications for our Fund this year, our team felt passionately that they want to continue to support GASP. As we build our relationship with the charity, we are working with them to see if we can provide additional support, such as through volunteering.”
