International Women’s Day 2021

8th March 2021

Event date: 8th March 2021

On Monday 8th March 2021, Surrey Chambers of Commerce presented our first virtual International Women’s Day event. We were joined by 40 different Surrey Businesses, and 4 incredible female speakers: Yejide Akiode, CEO of Eduspace Limited, Erika Brodnock, Founder of Karisma Kidz, Raj Kumari-Byford, Director of The Food Share and 1TCA and Frances Rutter, Principal and Chief Executive of Nescot College

International Women’s Day is celebrated annually on 8 March. This day gives an opportunity to reflect on progress made, to call for change and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their countries and communities. IWD aims to highlight the importance of creating conditions for the elimination of discrimination against women and for their full and equal participation in social development. Usually we would host a lunch, with a panel of fabulous speakers. This year things are a little different, but we aim to bring you a wonderful virtual event.

Everyone is welcome to attend this event to celebrate not only this year’s theme, but also celebrate the fabulous women of lockdown. We will be having a wonderful range of speakers speaking about their experiences of gender equality in the education sector, and what more can be done.

The theme for International Women’s Day 2021 was ‘Gender Equality in Education’.
A challenged world is an alert world. Individually, we’re all responsible for our own thoughts and actions – all day, every day. We can choose to challenge and call out gender stereotypes, discrimination and bias. We choose to seek out and celebrate women’s achievements. Collectively, we can create an inclusive and more gender-equal world. From challenge comes change, so let’s all choose to change.
