Celebrating 30 Years of Impact: The Eikon Charity
9th July 2026
On 30 June, supporters from across Surrey gathered at Brooklands Museum to celebrate a remarkable milestone: 30 years of The Eikon Charity. The event brought together those who generously give their time and resources to make Eikon’s work possible; trustees, volunteers, task-group members and event sponsors, alongside commissioners, partners, trusts, foundations, businesses and individual donors.
From humble beginnings in a single room at Fullbrook School, Eikon has grown into a thriving organisation supporting young people across the county, now with 71 staff, eight trustees and 43 dedicated volunteers.
The event offered a powerful reflection on the world our children and young people are navigating today. A local panel explored the increasing pressures facing the next generation, highlighting a fast-paced and often overwhelming environment. At its heart, the message was clear: young people need time, attention and space to process their experiences.
Thirty young people who have been supported 1:1 by Eikon were in the room, representing the 176,451 children and young people and their families who have been supported by 1-1 or group settings, over the last 30 years. Three bravely took to the podium to share their impact stories in their own way. Their words and music were powerful and deeply moving, demonstrating the lasting impact of Eikon’s work on them.
CEO Chris Hickford spoke candidly about the challenges ahead, from climate anxiety to the transformative effects of artificial intelligence on education, employment and relationships. He also highlighted the pressures created by competitive school environments and the importance of understanding young people’s lived experiences.
The event was a testament to collaboration in action, with Surrey Chambers members including Lamplight Media, Brooklands Museum, Sunbrand and Aikiko playing a key role. It was a powerful reminder that it truly “takes a village” to support young people to thrive.
