Your Sanctuary: 50 Years of Supporting Surrey

3rd September 2026

For five decades, we have been supporting adults and children affected by domestic abuse across Surrey. We provide specialist support, sanctuary & safety, empowerment, advocacy, safe accommodation & community-based support.

Domestic abuse can affect anyone, regardless of age, background, income or profession. It does not stop at the front door. It can affect someone’s ability to work, financial security, wellbeing, attendance and performance — and, critically, their safety. For employers, this means domestic abuse is also a workplace issue.

Businesses across Surrey have an important role to play in creating workplaces where people feel safe to speak up and know where to find help. With the right awareness, policies and support, employers can make a difference to their employees.

Your Sanctuary can support businesses through awareness sessions, workplace support and opportunities to get involved in our work.

50 years of making a difference

Our 50th anniversary is an opportunity to celebrate the thousands of people whose lives have been touched by Your Sanctuary, as well as the incredible supporters, volunteers, professionals & organisations who have helped make our work possible.

Anniversaries are not just about looking back, they are also about asking what the next 50 years should look like.

Our ambition is for a Surrey where everyone experiencing domestic abuse can access the right support at the right time, where children affected by abuse are recognised and supported and where survivors can move forward to build safe, independent futures free from fear.

A partnership with purpose

There is a huge opportunity for the Surrey business community to help us make our 50th year a landmark year.

Businesses can support us in many ways, from becoming a ‘Charity of the Year’ partner, organising employee fundraising or payroll giving, to volunteering, providing professional expertise (Pro bono) or sponsoring a project/particular area of our work. This could mean helping us create safe and welcoming accommodation, supporting children affected by domestic abuse or providing professional expertise or essential items.

We would also love to work with Surrey employers to improve understanding of domestic abuse in the workplace and help managers and colleagues recognise the signs and respond appropriately.

Our 50th anniversary gives Surrey businesses an opportunity to demonstrate their commitment to their communities in a meaningful & tangible way. Whether you are a large corporate employer or a local family business, there are ways to get involved. Including recognising them at our events throughout the year & on our social media.

Together, we can turn corporate support into something much more meaningful: safer homes, stronger futures and real opportunities for survivors including their children.

Help us make our 50th year count

As we prepare for 2027, we would love to hear from Surrey businesses that want to explore what a partnership with Your Sanctuary could look like.

If your organisation would like to support our 50th anniversary or discuss becoming a corporate partner, please get in touch with the Your Sanctuary team at fundraising@yoursanctuary.org.uk

There will also be a number of special events and activities throughout our 50th anniversary year, giving our supporters and the Surrey business community opportunities to celebrate with us, raise awareness and help make a difference. Further information about these events will be shared throughout the year in this newsletter.
