Collaboration isn’t optional: 100% of Surrey event planners say it’s essential in 2026

New data collected at a recent Surrey Event Processionals networking event hosted at  Storyboard at Shepperton, reveals a decisive shift in how events will be planned and delivered in 2026, with collaboration, visibility and transparency now non-negotiables for success.

The survey results paint a clear picture: while cost pressures remain widespread, it is the relationships, local partnerships, marketing and flexibility that are shaping the future of the industry.

100% of respondents said local business connections are essential to their success, and 100% are actively seeking more partnerships and collaborations in the year ahead.

The rise of the ‘venue partner’ highlights an evolution in expectations. Venues are no longer viewed as just space, they’re expected to play a role in event success, through flexibility, promotion and industry connections.  This presents a clear opportunity for venues, where those that actively support and amplify their clients’ events are positioning themselves as strategic partners rather than simply suppliers.

With transparent pricing (82%) and recommendations (18%) influencing booking decisions, venues that can demonstrate value beyond cost are gaining a competitive edge. Booking timelines are extending, most event planners are securing venues four to six months in advance, with many looking even earlier to guarantee availability and better pricing.

Marketing, PR and networking opportunities are now seen as the most effective ways to win new business and stand out in a crowded market, signalling a broader shift in mindset: success is increasingly driven by visibility and relationships, not just budgets.

Commenting on the findings, Caroline Dyos, Sales Director at Storyboard at Shepperton said: “Venues are no longer just spaces, they’re a driving force behind an event’s success. At Storyboard at Shepperton, we’re seeing businesses prioritise collaboration, visibility and flexibility over everything else. They want partners who can help them grow, not just host.

Businesses want more than four walls, they want visibility, connections and measurable impact. That is why we’re focused on building a strong local network, working in partnerships with Surrey businesses to help every event reach further, engage more people and deliver lasting results.”
