Fuller's Smith & Turner - The Princess Royal
The Princess Royal is a well-known country pub, hotel, restaurant, and event venue located on Guildford Road in the village of Runfold, just east of Farnham in Surrey. The property combines a traditional English roadside inn atmosphere with modern boutique-style accommodation and dining facilities. It sits close to the old A31 route near the Hog’s Back, surrounded by Surrey countryside and walking trails. (The Princess Royal)
Runfold itself is a small Surrey village with historic roots dating back centuries. The Princess Royal became one of the village’s landmark establishments after the original A31 route brought heavy passing trade through the area. Although the bypass reduced through traffic in the 1990s, the pub remained a significant local hospitality venue.
The Princess Royal dates back to 1926, when it was commissioned by Courage Brewery and designed by architect Guy Maxwell Aylwin, who was also responsible for several notable Farnham buildings including the Bush Hotel. The hotel accommodation wing was later added by Gales Brewery, which was eventually acquired by Fuller’s in 1999.
The Princess Royal operates as a boutique hotel with 27 guest bedrooms. Rooms range from compact single rooms to larger “Indulgence” suites with super king-size beds, roll-top baths, luxury furnishings, breakfast included.
We are known for serving modern British pub cuisine using seasonal ingredients. Menus typically include Sunday roasts, pies, fish and chips, steaks, vegetarian dishes, and more! The drinks selection includes Fuller’s ales, lagers, wines, and more! Breakfast service is available daily, including for non-residents.
The Princess Royal is also an established event venue hosting:
- Weddings,
- Corporate meetings,
- Private dining,
- Birthdays,
- Community gatherings
