Guildford ShopMobility Reopens with Support from Guildford Borough Council and Experience Guildford

15th October 2026

Guildford ShopMobility has reopened following support from Guildford Borough Council and Experience Guildford, restoring an important service that helps people with mobility difficulties access the town centre independently.

Following a community petition and strong local support, Experience Guildford stepped forward to help operate the service, with Guildford Borough Council committing a full year’s funding to support its relaunch.

Amanda Masters, CEO of Experience Guildford, said: “Experience Guildford is delighted to support the reopening of Guildford ShopMobility, the town centre service helping people with mobility issues get around Guildford with confidence.”

She added that the existing team remains in place and is ready to welcome both returning and new users, while work continues to secure the service’s long-term future.

Cllr Carla Morson, Lead Councillor for Community Services at Guildford Borough Council, said the reopening was “fantastic news for our community”, highlighting the service’s role in helping people access the town centre, stay connected and maintain their independence.

Guildford ShopMobility held its soft reopening on 21 September 2026, followed by its official opening on 2 October 2026.

How to Access Guildford ShopMobility

The service provides short-term loans of wheelchairs and mobility scooters, helping people with permanent or temporary mobility difficulties visit shops, leisure facilities and the town centre. No referral or Blue Badge is required.

Guildford ShopMobility operates from Bedford Road Car Park, Level 3, Guildford, GU1 4SA. Access is via the Laundry Road entrance near the law courts, with a bridge connecting users to the Friary Centre. Parking is free for service users when collecting a scooter.

Off-site hire of wheelchairs and travel scooters is also available, including for holidays, injuries or while waiting for surgery.

How Businesses and the Community Can Help

Guildford ShopMobility is seeking support to develop the service and secure its future. Ways to get involved include:

  • Donate: Contribute towards upgrading mobility scooters and power wheelchairs through its JustGiving fundraiser.
  • Volunteer expertise: Support its plans to secure charitable status, particularly with legal, financial or fundraising experience.
  • Donate equipment: Give mobility scooters or wheelchairs in good working order.
  • Sponsor the service: Help fund equipment upgrades and replacement batteries, or sponsor an individual scooter.

The reopening follows strong community support and represents an important step towards maintaining an accessible and inclusive Guildford town centre.
