The Guildford office of Smith & Williamson, the accountancy, investment management and tax group, has pledged its support for the next two years to Shooting Star Chase.

Shooting Star Chase is a leading children’s hospice charity caring for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions, and their families.

From babies to young people up to the age of 21, Shooting Star Chase supports families from diagnosis to end of life and throughout bereavement with a range of nursing, practical, emotional and medical care.

Maggie Lowe, head of Smith & Williamson’s Guildford office said: “Everyone in our Guildford office was given a choice of which local charity they would like to support and Shooting Star Chase was the winner. We have a volunteer group of nine enthusiastic staff who will help organise fundraising activities, which will include an office quiz night, a Christmas bake sale with a Christmas cake to be raffled, dress down days and clothes bag donations. We hope we can help make a difference.”

Carol Griffin, corporate relationship manager at Shooting Star Chase commented: “We are delighted to welcome Smith & Williamson as a corporate partner of Shooting Star Chase, which supports families living in London and Surrey. Our care is for the whole family, offering a bespoke service to suit each member’s individual needs. Without the support of local companies like Smith & Williamson we simply couldn’t raise the £10 million a year that we need to deliver our services and help make every moment count for the families we support.”

On a recent visit to Christopher’s Hospice at Artington, some of the Smith & Williamson volunteers were inspired after seeing some of the work the hospice does on a day-to-day basis and the excellent facilities they provide for the children and their families.

Shooting Star Chase

Shooting Star Chase is a leading children’s hospice charity caring for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions, and their families.

Whether lives are measured in days, weeks, months or years, we are here to make every moment count. We support families from diagnosis to end of life and throughout bereavement with a range of nursing, practical, emotional and medical care.

Our bespoke support is free of charge to families, and available 365 days a year. Our care service includes short breaks at our two hospices (Shooting Star House in Hampton and Christopher’s in Guildford), Hospice at Home, day care, symptom management, end-of-life care, bereavement care and a comprehensive range of therapies and support groups for the whole family.

It costs £10 million a year just to maintain our current level of care. Around 10% of our income comes from government funding, so we rely on our supporters’ generosity to keep the service running. What’s more, we know there are many more families desperate for our vital support, so it’s crucial we raise more funds to provide more care.
