Menopause and HRT
By Dr Nadia Oozeerally, Co-Founding GP Partner, Your Private GP Service, Ashtead Hospital, Surrey
Dr Nadia Oozeerally, a GP with a special interest in women’s health at Your Private GP Service, explains how Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) can support women through the menopause and beyond.
What is Menopause?
Menopause is diagnosed after 12 months without a period. In the UK, the average age is 51. The lead-up to this stage—called perimenopause—can bring significant hormonal changes, often starting in the late 40s.
Common Symptoms
- Hot flushes
- Mood swings
- Brain fog
- Irregular or heavy periods
- Low libido
- Restless legs
These symptoms result from the body adjusting to reduced levels of oestrogen.
How HRT Helps
HRT replaces declining hormones using oestrogen (commonly as gel or patches), progesterone (for women with a uterus), and testosterone (to support libido).
Benefits of HRT include:
- Reduced risk of heart disease and osteoporosis
- Improved brain function and memory
- Healthier skin and hair
- Better mood, sleep, and overall wellbeing
A Safe, Personalised Approach
At Your Private GP Service, we offer tailored HRT consultations with experienced female doctors. We carry out examinations & blood tests to assess hormone levels and overall health before treatment begins. Patients are monitored regularly, with adjustments made as needed to ensure safety and effectiveness.
Our goal is to help women transition through menopause feeling empowered, supported, and in optimal health.
