Meet the winners of the 1969 Great Air Race

1st May 2019

What: A breakfast meeting to reunite the winners and entrants of the Daily Mail Transatlantic Air Race in May 1969 for the 50th anniversary. Rare opportunity to interview and photograph individuals and as a group in front of the original aircraft and the Museum’s new First to the Fastest exhibition.

When: Tuesday 8th May 9am-11am

Where: Brooklands Museum (Vickers Suite), Brooklands Road, Weybridge Surrey KT13 0QN. Parking onsite via the Campbell Gate.

Who: The winner of the 1969 race, Tom Lecky-Thompson, overall winner Peter Goddard, and relatives of John Alcock, winner of the 1919 race.

Why: It will be the last chance ever to get to meet such names from aviation history, together in one room and celebrating what they achieved. It is also important that in today’s world, we look back and understand how much has changed in aviation over the last 100 years; that we remember the pioneering and sense of adventure. The Daily Mail were great advocates of flying and put up substantial amounts of prize fund money to inspire ordinary people to push limits and compete for world’s first titles.
