Local Councillor joins Surrey Choices for launch of new Celebrating Success Customer Awards
31st August 2021
Borough Councillor for Spelthorne, and Divisional Member for Staines, Councillor Sinead Mooney, joined a group of people from Surrey Choices this week for the launch of their new Celebrating Success Customer Awards.
The Customer Awards are Surrey Choices’ first ever organisation-wide awards for the people they support. The awards are to say well done to people for making progress or achieving their goals.
There are four awards for the people Surrey Choices supports: Friends, Relationships and Community; Health and Wellbeing; Independent Living and Life Skills; Employment, Volunteering and Vocational Learning.
An additional two awards are for organisations that partner with Surrey Choices, promoting inclusion within the community or as an employer.
The awards launch was hosted online via Zoom to a virtual audience, whilst a group from Surrey Choices’ Nexus Activity Centre attended with Surrey Choices Managing Director, Mette Le Jakobsen and Councillor Mooney at Marianne’s Community Cafe in Staines. The cafe is run by Surrey Disabled People’s Partnership, which is Surrey Choices’ Charity partner for 2021.
Introducing the event, Mette Le Jakobsen said: “Surrey Choices has a rich history of celebrating the achievements of the people who we support, but this year marks the launch of an organisation-wide effort to do just that.”
Cllr Mooney was delighted to be present, saying: “I am here today with Surrey Choices, to help them celebrate their Customer Awards. It is a really successful session so far acknowledging the work of people to meet their goals, targets and priorities.”
After the award launch presentation Cllr Mooney spent time chatting with those present. Among the hot topics discussed were local representation for people with disabilities, advocacy, and the importance of voting.
