From The Yvonne Arnaud to Ed Sheeran – Acclaimed SignSong performer Fletch leads a workshop with local school children

10th December 2021

Ed Sheeran’s favourite SignSong performer, Fletch led a workshop at the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre’s Mill Studio with pupils from The Lighthouse Specialist Centre for Deaf Children at Guildford Grove Primary School, today, Monday 6 December.

Fletch explained how she translates songs into British Sign Language and taught the children a song using her engaging process.

Fletch will make history when she joins Ed Sheeran at Wembley Stadium in June as a SignSong performer and BSL interpreter for the performances, marking the beginning of Wembley Stadium’s commitment to have BSL interpretation at all live concerts.

Fletch is one of the UK’s leading Deaf SignSong performers and has previously performed alongside Ronan Keating. Her emotive and captivating performance gives Deaf people equal access to songs and provides hearing people with the chance to experience the song in a powerful, visual way.

Rhiannon Fisher, Head of Creative Learning at the Yvonne Arnaud said of the workshop: ‘The pupils were so excited to work with Fletch today as part of our Discover Theatre Project, helping them to achieve their Explore Arts Awards. Fletch led them in a SignSong workshop teaching them how to bring the lyrics and emotional resonance of a song to life through signing. They had a brilliant time and got to ask Fletch about her job and life as an artist.’

The children who took part in today’s workshop will visiting the theatre for a second time later this week to watch one of the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre’s British Sign Language interpreted performances of their Christmas pantomime, Dick Whittington.

Tickets for the BSL performances and the relaxed performance of the pantomime are available at www.yvonne-arnaud.co.uk or telephone 01483 44 00 00
