Double Awards Success for Temporary Structures Firm Trafalgar Marquees

Surrey-based Trafalgar Marquees is delighted to have won the Silver Corporate Social Responsibility Award in the 2024 SME Surrey Business Awards. The winners of these awards, designed to support and raise the profile of industrious, hardworking and enterprising SMEs in Surrey, were crowned at a grand celebration in Shepperton in September.
Trafalgar Marquees has also been shortlisted for the ESG Champion Award in the 2024 Surrey Business Awards. These annual awards recognise the remarkable achievements and contributions of businesses and individuals across the Surrey region. Winners will be announced at a spectacular gala dinner on November 7th at G Live in Guildford.
Founded in 2011, Trafalgar Marquees offers flexible, rapid deployment of high-quality, affordable temporary structures. Since the pandemic, we have reinvented our business model and employee experience, challenging industry norms and putting Corporate Social Responsibility at the heart of our company.
Our industry has traditionally been asset-heavy and single-use focused. But we are determined to do things differently, protecting our business and our planet. We became B Corp certified in 2023, committing to sustainability by banning single-use plastic, investing in an electric vehicle, moving to LED lighting, switching to a default sustainable pension fund, installing smart meters and monitoring energy usage, investing in our people through wellbeing benefits and training, and even harvesting rainwater.
We have disrupted the Events industry norms of being a ‘work hard, play hard’ industry to focus on employee experience. We introduced a comprehensive employee wellbeing programme in 2021, working with Surrey mental health charity Oakleaf. In 2023, we have added additional employee benefits, including life insurance, income protection and assistance programmes.
Over the next three years, our objective is to continue our transition from a short-term marquee hire company to a long-term temporary space business with sustainability at our core. Along with more internal changes, we are focusing on how we sell sustainable space to our clients and educating our customers on sustainable choices.
Being more sustainable makes complete economic sense. If you look at the long term, the only practical option is to become more environmentally conscious.
