27th November 2024
Inviting Surrey businesses to commission student projects for MSc AI for Business students at Royal Holloway University of London, School of Business and Management
The AI for Business Capstone Project provides students with direct access to industry professionals and AI-driven management practices in a business setting.
Students will engage with organisations for their (potential) use of AI across various business functions. The project aims to enhance students’ appreciation of the technical, ethical, and organisational challenges in implementing AI in business contexts. Commissioned projects, available to the highest-performing students, provide a chance to work directly with real organisations. The final deliverable will be a comprehensive report or practical AI implementation, demonstrating the student’s ability to integrate AI knowledge with business acumen. This capstone project bridges academic learning and practical application, preparing students for AI-focused roles across various industries.
Benefits for the Organisation: By participating in the AI for Business Capstone Project, organisations gain access to fresh perspectives and innovative thinking from emerging AI talent. Students bring contemporary academic insights and can provide cost-effective, propose solutions to specific business challenges, while offering a low-risk opportunity to explore potential AI applications. The project allows companies to tap into cutting-edge AI knowledge without significant financial investment, potentially identifying transformative approaches to their business problems.
Benefits for the Student: The capstone project offers students an invaluable opportunity to translate academic learning into real-world practice, bridging theoretical knowledge with practical application. Students develop critical professional skills by working directly with industry professionals, gaining hands-on experience in AI-driven solutions, and building a tangible portfolio piece that demonstrates their ability to solve complex business problems. This experiential learning approach enhances their employability, provides networking opportunities, and allows them to understand the practical complexities of deploying AI solutions in actual business contexts.
It is possible that the commissioning organisation will dictate the topic, datasets, requirements, and constraints for the project. The commissioning organisation may require formal assurances of confidentiality and copyright ownership. It should be noted that all commissioned projects are voluntary and do not entitle students to a fee. Commissioned projects are also only made available to students based on their academic performance. Assignment of a student to a Commissioned project is subject to the approval of the Course Director and any selection process set by the commissioning organisation.
