Surrey’s top employers visit East Surrey College for National Careers Week 2026
To celebrate National Careers Week East Surrey College welcomed a range of employers and organisations from across Surrey and the wider region, giving students valuable insight into local industries and career pathways.
The Aviation Recruitment Network, a trusted partner to the UK’s commercial aviation industry, met with Aviation, Travel and Tourism students to discuss the wide range of roles available across the sector. They highlighted careers spanning hospitality, baggage, security, logistics and cabin crew, as well as explaining how they support candidates in finding employment locally at nearby Gatwick Airport.
Network Rail also discussed with Engineering students about their many maintenance and operational roles that support millions of train journeys each year. The team explained how they carry out planned maintenance 365 days a year come rain or shine and outlined opportunities available through graduate schemes and apprenticeship programmes.
Construction students were welcomed by representatives from VINCI, one of the world’s largest construction and infrastructure companies, alongside Berkeley Group, a leading property developer with a strong presence across the South East. Both organisations shared insights into careers within the industry and the diverse opportunities available to those entering construction and engineering roles.
Tandridge District Council highlighted the breadth of careers available within the council. Shannon Davies spoke to students in the auditorium, explaining that working for the council involves far more than simply dealing with bins and potholes. Students learned about the many career paths available in areas such as building control, council tax, elections, housing and town planning.
Other representatives from across the week included the Home Office, local Councillor Jonathan Essex, Bright Horizons and Fennies Nurseries, as well as Platform7teen and the National Careers Serivce who provided advice and support on how to successfully seek employment for our students.
Reflecting on the week’s events Careers Lead, Helen Gono said:
“National Careers Week has been so uplifting with really good talks from employers that were positive with opportunities for students to gain entry level jobs or apprenticeships. Staff and student feedback has been really rewarding and the students learnt how to get into the job market in their field.”
