Activate Learning unveils new Skills Bootcamps to boost local careers in Surrey
11th December 2025
Activate Learning is delighted to announce three brand-new Skills Bootcamps, created to support adults aged 19+ who live or work in Surrey.
These dynamic, government-funded programmes—delivered via Activate Learning’s Merrist Wood College and University Centre campus—provide free or low-cost training that equips learners with in-demand, industry-ready skills, helping them progress in their careers and access new employment opportunities.
Strengthening Surrey’s future workforce
The Skills Bootcamps initiative is part of the UK Government’s “Lifetime Skills Guarantee” designed to fill critical skills gaps and help adults adapt to evolving job markets.
Activate Learning’s offerings are local, focused, and practical — giving learners the chance to gain job-ready skills in sectors where demand is rising cycle repair and mobility, land-based project leadership, and sustainability roles in business.
By launching these three bootcamps in the Guildford area, the organisation offers high-quality, flexible training for local communities in Surrey, enabling learners to train locally without long commutes.
Exploring the new Skills Bootcamps
The new Skills Bootcamps include Cycle Maintenance, Land and Sustainability programmes:
Delivered at Merrist Wood College and University Centre, the Cycle Maintenance programme enables participants to work through the nationally recognised Cytech qualifications (Level 1 and Level 2) – the gold standard for cycle mechanics in the UK.
Learning both theory (online) and practical hands-on experience in the workshop with professional tools and equipment.
This eight-week programme offers a blended learning model (online and in-person at Merrist Wood College and University Centre) and is tailored for those already working in landscaping or land-based industries who want to step into supervisory or leadership roles.
It covers project management, health and safety, design documentation, team-management and more. This course is free for individual learners, with a small co-funded option for employer referrals.
Delivered via a mix of online classes and face-to-face sessions, the ten-week Sustainability programme is ideal for professionals, business owners or anyone looking to shift into the sustainability field.
Eligibility
- Adults aged 19 or over, who live or work in Surrey and have the right to work in the UK. (Check individual course pages for any additional eligibility)
- For the Cycle Maintenance and Sustainability bootcamps, learners need either little to no prior experience (Cycle) or a willingness to switch careers or upskill (Sustainability).
- For the Land bootcamp, you must be already employed or self-employed in land-based sectors and ready for supervisory roles.
