New Health Facilities Boost Local Vocational Training Pipeline

Ahead of the new academic term, East Surrey College opened their new T Level Health facilities, marking a major step forward in addressing the region’s health and social care skills gap.

The facilities have been designed to mirror real-world healthcare environments, including four medical bays, a healthcare flat, a mock GP surgery, and advanced clinical training manikins. Together these provide students with a safe but realistic setting to practise everything from patient care and record handling to procedures such as IV cannulation and blood pressure monitoring. The manikins have been named and have functionality which includes breathing and speaking of their pain just like real patients!

The project reflects a national shift towards skills-based learning that is designed with local employers to meet their needs. The new students will benefit from a practical classroom setting that will run alongside an industry placement, providing hands-on learning and experience to progress to skilled employment, further study or a higher apprenticeship.

With health and social care demand increasing in the local area, the investment supports the region’s Labour Market Information (LMI) priorities by ensuring young people are workplace-ready on completion of their studies.

The development reinforces the College’s commitment to innovative learning that reflects the demands of our community, ensuring students have the best chance of career-focused experiences that will prepare students for a meaningful career.
