Healthwatch Surrey CIC Board Independent Non-Executive Directors

17th August 2018

Do you want to make a difference to NHS and social care services in Surrey, and help amplify the voices of local people?

Healthwatch Surrey is an independent organisation with statutory powers that gives a voice to local people to shape and improve NHS and social care services. We work collaboratively as a critical friend, to help commissioners and providers listen to local views, and to help the public in Surrey share their experiences.

We are looking for new independent Non-Executive Directors to join our board, working alongside our Chair and other directors to help us maximise our impact in championing the voice of local people across health and social care.

You will play a key role in the governance, strategic direction and commercial success of Healthwatch Surrey Community Interest Company. You will help to set, monitor and implement our corporate strategy, objectives, and priorities. You will ensure that decisions are taken in line with our core values and commitment to diversity. You will be a source of constructive challenge, scrutiny and support to our Chief Executive and delivery team, keeping an overview of strategies, policies and overall performance in line with our mission and vision. Depending on your areas of expertise, you may be asked to offer advice in support of specific projects.

In addition, you will be an ambassador for Healthwatch Surrey, helping to build awareness and forge constructive relationships with our stakeholders and local communities.

By joining our board, you will make a real impact on the health and social care services that are so important to the lives of local people. We have well-developed governance structures and a clear mission, vision and goals, so you will be joining a mature board which oversees a dynamic and passionate staff team. Healthwatch Surrey has a seat at many decision-making and scrutiny forums across Surrey and statutory powers, and we are determined to make constructive and effective use of these. Joining us will give you a fantastic opportunity to get involved in key decisions about our future and priorities, and to use your skills and experience to make a difference. In addition, you will feel part of a friendly, committed, and achievement-focussed team.

If you feel that your experience will help us to reach out to all of Surrey’s communities and hear as many voices as possible, we would love to hear from you. We are particularly interested in ensuring that those who are at risk of health inequalities, and those who tend to be less well-heard or seldom-asked, are given due consideration in Surrey’s health and social care system. If you have leadership or governance experience, that would be helpful however it is not essential. A passion for our work is the most important quality we are looking for.

This is a part-time role with a commitment to a monthly meeting – board meetings in public 4 times a year and workshops or private board meetings in intervening months. Meetings take place during working hours, at venues across Surrey. Directors are expected to review and consider reports and other information before meetings, and to act as ambassadors for Healthwatch Surrey as availability permits.

Non-Executive Director positions are voluntary and unpaid however all reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.

If you would like informal chat about this opportunity please contact recruitment@healthwatchsurrey.co.uk and we will arrange a call back.

Please apply sending a CV and a covering letter of no more than 1000 words, outlining how you meet the criteria in the person specification, to recruitment@healthwatchsurrey.co.uk by 5pm on 14th September. We are only able to consider applications that include a covering letter as well as a CV. Interviews will be held in Guildford.
